(UPDATE) Man Identified in Fatal Polk County Crash

***UPDATE***

The deceased driver is identified as Aaron J. Thompson, 27, of rural Milltown.  His age was misstated in the initial release.

On April 24, 2017 at 8:53 A.M., the Polk County Dispatch Center received a 911 call reporting a two-vehicle crash on 220th Street/CTH Z near 240th Avenue.  Ambulances and deputies were dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival it was determined that only one vehicle was involved.  The involved vehicle, a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer, was northbound on CTH Z/220th Street.  As the vehicle passed 240th Ave., the vehicle left the roadway on the west side of the road and impacted a driveway causing the vehicle to go airborne and then roll upon landing.  The vehicle struck trees and a power pole while airborne.  The vehicle came to rest in a cornfield on the west side of the road.  There was extensive damage to all areas of the vehicle and any attempted rescue was complicated by the vehicle being entangled with powerlines.

The lone occupant driver was reported deceased.  The driver was a [27]-year old male from rural Milltown.  Public identification of the deceased is pending until notification can be made to family.

This crash is the third fatal crash in Polk County in 2017, resulting in four deaths.

The crash and death remain under investigation of the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and Medical Examiner’s Office.  Assisting at the scene were Cushing Fire, Luck Police Department, St. Croix Valley EMS/Lakes Area Ambulance Service and Northwest Electric.  A special thank you to Polk-Burnett Electric who assisted at the scene after being flagged down.
