Rep. Quinn, Milroy to Attend Public Hearing at Spooner High School

Rep. Quinn, Milroy to Attend Public Hearing at Spooner High School

The Joint Committee on Finance issued a press release today, March 21, 2017, confirming the holding of a public hearing at the Spooner High School on April 18th, 2017, on the Governor's 2017-19 Biennial Budget (Assembly Bill 64/Senate Bill 30).

Spooner Area School District Superintendent John Burnett believes that this is not only a privilege for the SASD to host, but a great opportunity for the community to voice their opinions as well.

"It is certainly an honor for Spooner High School to be selected as one of the sites for a public hearing on the 2017-19 Wisconsin State Budget", Burnett said in an email communication with DrydenWire.com earlier this evening. "On April 18th citizens of this community will have the opportunity to share their thoughts on how they would like to see their tax dollars used over the next two years.

"Knowing that good schools are an important part of many families, strengthen local economies and contribute to the overall quality of life, it is important to take this opportunity to let our elected representatives know that we need their financial support", added Burnett.

Superintendent Burnett also encourages the community to participate in this unique-to-the-area event.

"Recognizing the challenges that our state legislators face putting together a budget, I would encourage our community members to attend this hearing and remind the Representatives and Senators that make up the Joint Finance Committee of just how important our schools are for helping us to get to better economic times and to continue to provide them with the resources to do so."

Two of those Representatives will be Rep. Quinn and Rep. Milroy, who have both confirmed to DrydenWire.com that they will be in attendance for the public hearing.

Rep. Nick Milroy (D) - Representing Wisconsin's 73rd Assembly District - posted the following to his Facebook page today:

The Joint Committee on Finance is slated to begin reviewing the governor's budget proposal with five public hearings around the state. All hearings will begin at 10:00 am. While this isn't enough to hear the concerns of all our citizens, I am happy the Committee is meeting in Spooner at the High School on Tuesday, April 18. Please join me to make your voice heard.

Rep. Milroy continues to state that both he and Senator Janet Bewley are tentatively planning a budget listening session that would be held in Superior on Monday, April 24, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

Rep. Romaine Quinn (R) - Representing Wisconsin's 75th Assembly District - submitted the following to DrydenWire today:

With nearly six million people in the state and hundreds of cities to choose from, I am glad to see that the Joint Finance Committee has answered my request to have a hearing near the district.  This a great opportunity for citizens to be able to directly address the committee that has the power to add and strike items from the state budget.  If you do not make your concerns known, how can you expect your government to help?

Rep. Quinn continues to state that in an attempt to get as much input as possible from the public, he will also be holding four listening sessions:

  • 3/23/17 Chetek City Hall 6:30-7:30 pm
  • 4/1/17 Barron City Hall 4-5:30 pm
  • 4/7/17 Rice Lake City Hall 6-7:30 pm
  • 4/8/17 Clear Lake Community Center 10-11:30 pm
