Body of Missing Ladysmith Canoeist Found, Search Continues for Other

LADYSMITH, Wis. -- On Thursday, May 18, 2017, at approximately 2:47 p.m. the Rusk County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a capsized canoe by the Clearwater Paper Company Dam, in Ladysmith, Wisconsin. The canoe was believed to have two occupants. 

On May 24, 2017, Jacob E. Fye, 35 of Ladysmith body was located through a continuous effort by The Ladysmith Police Department, Ladysmith Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and Great Lakes Indian Fish and Wildlife Commission. The Rusk County Medical Examiner’s Office is assisting with the investigation. 

A continued effort to locate Matthew C. Kenny 36 of Ladysmith will resume on May 25, 2017. 

Local law enforcement is urging local residents to use extreme caution when out in rain-swollen streams and rivers. The Ladysmith Fire Department is leading the search efforts and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is leading the boat accident investigation. The incident remains under investigation.
