Sheriff Issues Release, Booking Photo of Spooner Man Charged with 7th OWI

At approximately 09:30 Pm Friday the 14th a Wisconsin State Trooper attempted to stop a vehicle in the Hertel area for suspicion of OWI. The vehicle failed to stop and a pursuit was initiated. The pursuit entered Washburn County east bound on Hwy 70.

Stop sticks were deployed at Greenfield Road and Hwy 70 that eventually deflated the two front tires of the suspect vehicle. Unfortunately, the stop sticks were not removed from the road way in time and the Trooper in pursuit hit the sticks causing his left front tire to go flat. Another private vehicle was driven by the St. Croix Tribal Police Chief also suffered a flat tire on his truck.

Eventually, the suspect vehicle was stopped by a State Trooper using a PIT maneuver. Basically using the front of your squad fender to strike the chased vehicle in the right or left rear bumper spinning the vehicle around.

A Wisconsin State Cruiser and a Washburn County Squad car were damaged but both were driveable from the scene.

Brian Drain of 117 Second Avenue Spooner WI was arrested for 7th offense OWI and Knowingly Flee, both are Felonies. He can be charged for both crimes in both Washburn and Burnett Counties, because both crimes were committed in each county that decision will be up to the District Attorney's of their respective counties.

"Thankfully no one was hurt during this chase and another dangerous repeat offender is off the road ways, even if for a short time. Thanks to Spooner PD for their valuable assistance."
