High-Speed Chase Leads to 7th OWI Charge for Spooner Man

Brien J Drain, 45 years of age, from Spooner has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Spooner Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 7th offense.

On Friday, April 14, 2017, at approximately 09:38 pm, Troopers from Northwest Region Spooner Post attempted to stop a green 1998 Ford Ranger for speeding 73mph in a 55mph zone on Hwy 70 near Hurtle. The vehicle accelerated to 85mph and continued east bound on Hwy 70 to Washburn Co. The pursued vehicle eventually stuck tire deflation devices and was then rammed by a squad using a pursuit intervention technique. The suspect vehicle came to a final rest after striking a squad car. The driver was extricated from the vehicle after he failed to comply with officers orders. The driver was identified as Brien J. Drain, M/W age 45 from Spooner, Wisconsin. A subsequent investigation revealed the driver may be operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.

No injuries were incurred by officers or suspect driver.

Drain was arrested and charged with OWI-7th Offense. An evidentiary blood test was obtained. Drain was also charged with operating after suspension and Knowingly flee an officer. Drain was lodged in the Washburn County Jail pending an initial court appearance.

"Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty."
