Students - Test Your Knowledge About Country & Government, Earn a Scholarship

Wisconsin students have a tremendous opportunity to demonstrate their understanding of how America works and earn money toward their on-going education. Starting Monday, April 3, the Wisconsin American Legion begins its annual on-line A&G Scholarship Program (www.wilegion.org) and high school students will be able to compete for cash scholarships.

“Allegiance to this great country and understanding how our government works have never been more important and timely,” said State Commander Daniel Seehafer of Horicon. “Students are responding positively and are increasingly showing a desire to participate in their communities and shape their own futures in them.”

Over 5,000 Wisconsin students took the online Americanism and Government Scholarship test in 2016 and the Legion is hoping even more will participate in 2017. The test focuses on student knowledge of the U.S. Federal government, Wisconsin State government, County government, our Constitution and flag etiquette. Students are also required to answer an essay question to qualify for the scholarships. An optional “Certificate of Participation” from The American Legion can also be printed upon completion of the test.

The total number of scholarships offered to schools across the state have increased to 45:

  • 13 - $500 scholarships for Seniors;
  • 16 - $250 scholarships for Juniors; and,
  • 16 - $250 scholarships for Sophomores.

*Students can begin accessing the website on Monday, April 3 through Friday, April 14*

The Wisconsin American Legion is the state’s largest veterans’ service organization with over 60,000 members and 507 posts in communities across Wisconsin serving troops, veterans and youth since 1919. For more information on the Legion’s programs and membership, please visit www.wilegion.org.
