In Memory of Dieter E. Briggs

March 1, 1954 - April 11, 2017

March 1, 1954 - April 11, 2017

Dieter Briggs, age 63, a resident of Duluth, MN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2017.

Dieter was born on March 1st, 1954 in Bamberg, Germany, and was raised in Hof Germany by his parents Jack and Helga (Hohmann) Briggs until immigrating with his family to New York at the age of 6.  In 1966, when he was 12, the family moved to Duluth. He graduated from Duluth East High School and then attended and graduated from Duluth Business University with an Associate’s Degree in Accounting.  He owned and ran his own accounting firm, for several years; an accomplishment he was very proud of.

When a business suit and tie no longer held his interest, Dieter then enjoyed working for Voyageur Bus Company, and especially enjoyed volunteering for Grandma’s Marathon events.   On November 12, 1988, he was united in marriage to Deidra Nacey  in Duluth, MN.  In 1999, he began driving truck for Halvor Lines where he earned an award for 10 years of safe driving and had recently passed his Two Millionth Mile on the road; He loved driving.

Dieter made several successful skydiving jumps in his younger years but gave it up when he gained the responsibility of parenting.  He was a very proud man, with a great love of his family, a strong belief in God, and an extreme sense of humor with incredible wit. One reason he loved his trucking job is that it gave him opportunity to visit friends and family all over the country. Dieter also enjoyed spending the weekends at his beloved campground; nothing like a morning fire and a good cup of coffee. Once in a while, you might have even seen him hanging out with a fishing pole.

Dieter was preceded in death by both his Father and Mother. He is survived by his children: Tracy Moga of Royalton, MN, Whitney Briggs-Elstad of Duluth, Saul (Cheyenne) Jeanetta  of Moose Lake, Jack (Brittany) Briggs II of Duluth, Daniel Briggs of Proctor, Laurie Briggs of Duluth, grandchildren: Allison, Meagan, Nathaniel, Ayden, Lolita, Ryker, Veda, Emma, Cameron, Ascher, Kaiden, Isaiah, siblings: Patricia Malleccoccio of South Carolina, Walter Malleccoccio of Texas, Peter Briggs of Germany, Cherri Lynne(Scott) Briggs-Chausee of New Hampshire, Stan(Kelly) Michael of Missouri, Andy Briggs of Vermont, Teresa Golding of Vermont, Dannielle Grant of South Carolina, and many other extended family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at the Fond Du Lac Community Church, located at 521 131st Ave West in Gary New Duluth. There will be a gathering of family and friends at 10, followed by a service from Pastor Rob at 11.
