(UPDATE) Names Released from Polk County Motorcycle Crash

Wisconsin State Patrol - On April 22, 2017 at 10:30 pm, a cycle with two occupants was westbound on USH 8 in Polk County when the operator failed to negotiate the roundabout at the intersection of STH 46 south. The cycle ran through the grass in the center mound of the roundabout, lost control, and crashed on the back side of the center mound causing injuries to both the operator and the passenger. The passenger was airlifted and the operator was transported by ambulance to Regions Hospital in St. Paul, MN. The operator of the cycle was arrested and charged with Operating Under the Influence 3rd offense.

Neither of the occupants are believed to have been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Polk County Sheriff's Office - On Saturday April 22nd, 2017 at approximately 10:28 P.M., Polk County Dispatch received a report of a single vehicle motorcycle crash which had occurred on U.S. HWY 8 at the roundabout of State HWY 46 South. There had been two adult occupants, a male driver and a female passenger. Both parties were reported to be injured and were initially transported to the Amery Hospital emergency room. Neither subject was wearing a helmet.

Polk County Sheriff’s Deputies and a WI State Trooper investigated the accident. It was determined that the motorcycle had been traveling westbound on U.S. HWY 8 and struck the eastern side of the roundabout at highway speeds. The motorcycle then continued over the roundabout, coming to rest on the western side, ejecting both occupants. Alcohol was suspected to have played a role in the accident and the WI State Patrol is investigating this case.

The female passenger was airlifted to Regions Hospital with possible life-threatening injuries. The male driver was initially treated for injury at the Amery Hospital, and later transported to Regions Hospital for further treatment. He will face possible charges for Operating Motor Vehicle While under the Influence 3rd Offense, as well as, Inattentive Driving. Other charges may be filed based upon further investigation.

Local emergency services which responded to this accident included Apple River Fire Department and First Responders, Amery Area Ambulances, WI State Patrol, and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
