FOND DU LAC COUNTY — Today, District Attorney Eric J. Toney announced that Darrell T. Scott was charged with Terrorist Threats – Use of a Dangerous Weapon (felony) and misdemeanor violations.
During the initial appearance cash bond was set at $1 million dollars. The charges stem from an April 3, 2023 arrest for an OWI 3rd violation. The defendant is alleged to have made repeated statements that once released from custody he would buy an assault rifle to shoot up a school, saying he thinks about it daily. No specific a target was mentioned. The defendant is presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty.
District Attorney Toney stated “Anyone that threatens to commit a school shooting and threaten the lives of students and educators will be aggressively prosecuted in our community. Parents must have confidence that when they send their children to school that they will come home safely and teachers must feel safe while educating children in our community.
The defendant is charged with one felony and two misdemeanors:
- Count 1: Terrorist Threats - Use of a Dangerous Weapon (Class I Felony) with a maximum penalty of seven years and 6 months of imprisonment and/or a fine of not more than $10,000.
- Count 2: OWI 3rd Offense (Unclassified Misdemeanor) with a minimum 45 days of jail but not more than 1 year in jail and a minimum fine of $600 but not more than $2,000.
- Count 3: Possession of Tetrahydrocannabinols (Unclassified Misdemeanor) with a maximum imprisonment of six months and/or a fine not more than $1,000.
This case is being investigated by the Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office.
