10,000 Puck Challenge

SPOONER, WI -- The Spooner Area Youth Hockey Association (SAYHA) challenged it's skaters to shoot 10,000 pucks each during the summer. The 10,000 Puck Challenge ended September 1st, 2021.

Shots were taken and logged by 17 different skaters for a total of 105,310 shots!

SAYHA provided guidelines and tips so that the skaters were learning life skills while competing in the challenge. Guidelines for the challenge were to be honest with yourself, you will only improve with practice, use types of shots appropriate for your age level, and 15 minutes of stick handling drills counted for 50 shots. Tips included making a regular schedule of shooting, challenge a friend, work on your weak shot, head up when shooting, use a target to shoot at, concentrate on good follow through, shoot 5% from unusual positions

For each 1,000 pucks shot, the skater was entered into a drawing for a new hockey stick. The drawing will be held at the Back to the Rink Party on September 19th, 2021. Additionally, there was a team goal for the highest team total. The SQUIRT TEAM (9-10 year olds) won the team competition and will be treated to a pizza party when the SAYHA season kicks off on October 25th, 2021. Finally, each participant will receive a t-shirt denoting their participation in the challenge.

Participants included Nolen Larson, Dom Larson, Korbin Fox, Kevin Kronland, Adrian Smith, Anika Smith, Easton Brummond, Angelo Giuliani, Luke Gothblad, Blake Keown, Riley Romsos, Max McKinney, Bentley McKinney, Alaska Johnson, Luke Johnson, Tanner Johnson, and Olivia Webster.

The Spooner Area Youth Hockey Association welcomes skaters to register for their 49th year on the ice! Learn to Skate and Learn to Play Hockey sessions will be held October 9th, 16th, 23rd and 30th at the Spooner Civic Center from 9am -10am.
