BURNETT COUNTY — A 10-year-old girl has died after being struck by a vehicle in a parking lot, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office.

On July 20, 2025 at 11:48 a.m. Burnett County Dispatch received a call of a 10 year old female pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle in the Burnett Dairy Cooperative parking lot in Wood River Township.
The victim was flown from the scene to a Twin Cities hospital. She was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The victim’s identity will not be released at this time.
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Philip Schmidt, 85 years old, from Grantsburg, WI.
This incident is still under investigation, but appears to be accidental.
The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office would like to thank North Ambulance, North Air Care, Grantsburg Police Department, Grantsburg Fire Department and the Burnett Dairy personnel for their assistance.
