A 19-year-old man from Ladysmith, WI, is facing charges of child sexual assault in Sawyer County Circuit Court.

William McBain, of Ladysmith, WI is charged in Sawyer County Circuit Court with Class B Felony 1st Degree Child Sexual Assault - Contact With Child Under Age of 16 - By Use or Threat of Force or Violence; Class D Felony Child Enticement; and Class I Felony Exposing Genitals.

According to a criminal complaint filed against McBain, in September 2017, the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department received a report that McBain had sexually assaulted a young teenaged female.

The criminal complaint states that on September 15, 2017, the young female communicated with McBain via Facebook and McBain drove from Ladysmith to meet her on the road she lived on.

Once there, McBain allegedly convinced the female to get into his truck. The female stated that McBain asked her if she wanted to have sex, to which she replied no, however, McBain allegedly proceeded to forcefully kiss the victim on the lips. The female went on to tell investigating officers that McBain pulled his genitalia out of his pants and grabbed the female's hand, attempting to force her to touch it. The criminal complaint goes on to state that McBain then forced the female's head down and put his genitalia in her mouth.

The female told investigating officers that she pulled her head away, causing injury to McBain’s genitalia in the process. She was then able to get out of the truck and leave the area.

The female returned to her residence, and according to the criminal complaint, McBain followed her there. McBain allegedly told her, “what happens in the truck, stays in the truck.” The female's mother was present at the residence, and after a period of time, the female was able to communicate to the mother that McBain needed to go, and he left.

Investigating officers interviewed McBain, and the criminal complaint filed against him states that he admitted to having contact with the female on that day, but denied ever touching or kissing her. When McBain was placed under arrest, he allegedly asked, “How many years will I get?” After being transported to the Sawyer County Jail, McBain allegedly stated that this was not the first time he had been charged with sexual assault and that he had not been found guilty the first time, so he was not worried about the charge this time.

Online circuit court records show that McBain appeared for a bail bond hearing in Sawyer County Circuit Court on September 28, 2017, and was placed on a $5,000 cash bail bond which was posted the next day. McBain is under a condition that he not have any contact with the alleged victim by any means.

A hearing was held this week regarding McBain’s criminal charges, and he is next scheduled to appear in May 2018.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
