DANBURY, Wis. - Two people were arrested early Sunday morning following a high-speed chase that began near the Danbury Casino, according to a news release from the St. Croix Tribal Police Department.

News Release

On 03-08-2020 around 3:10 am, Tribal Officers stopped a vehicle driven by Chris Darnel Hiemstra, 05/21/1961, with Justin Allen Siiter, 02/22/1985 as a passenger after it left the Danbury Casino. Tribal Officers gathered enough reasonable suspicion for a K9 sniff on the vehicle after talking to the occupants and looking at past court records.

Tribal Officers re-approached the vehicle and asked Chris to exit the vehicle. He immediately shifted the vehicle into drive and fled southbound on State Highway 35. Tribal Officers followed and speeds reached over 100 mph. The vehicle traveled south on 35, west on Lone Pine Road, east on County Road U and then headed north on State Highway 35. The vehicle continued to elude Officers with speeds around 100 mph. The vehicle then drove into the entryway area of the Danbury Casino and stopped.

Tribal Officers conducted what is called a “felony stop” where they ordered the driver and passenger out of the vehicle at gunpoint. Burnett Deputies arrived and assisted with detaining the passenger. Both the driver and passenger were detained without any further issues.

While Chris Hiemstra was being handcuffed a baggie of methamphetamine fell out from somewhere on him when he was on the ground. Tribal Officers also located “loose” methamphetamine pieces throughout the vehicle.

The vehicle was impounded and was later processed for the evidence inside. Tribal Officers also located two baggies that were believed to have been thrown from the vehicle on the side of the road. One of the baggies contained methamphetamine.

The loose methamphetamine in the vehicle was collected with a total weight of 5.66 grams. The methamphetamine in the bag that was found on the roadside weighed 4.22 grams and the baggie of methamphetamine that was found on Chris weighed 1.70 grams.

Total weight of white crystalline powder with packaging was 11.58 grams.

Additionally 1.12 grams of marijuana, a digital scale, cell phones, a Suboxone package, and a THC oil cartridge was collected from inside the vehicle.
