Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash In Burnett County

BURNETT COUNTY — Matthew Matrious, 30, a passenger in what authorities believe was a stolen vehicle from Barron County, died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday in Burnett County, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff's Office.

(Press Release) -- On September 15, 2019 at 5:43 a.m. Burnett County Dispatch received a call of a one vehicle crash near the intersection of State Highway 70 and Clam Lake Drive in Meenon Township.  

The vehicle was believed to be stolen and was reported to have been involved in a burglary in Barron County.  

The vehicle was occupied by three people.  The driver and back passenger were both juveniles.  The front passenger, Matthew Matrious, who was 30 years old, was pronounced deceased at the scene.  Both juveniles were transported to local hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.  Initially, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The Burnett County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by the Wisconsin State Patrol, St. Croix Tribal Police Department, North Memorial Ambulance, Siren Fire Department, Burnett County Highway Department and the Burnett County Medical Examiner’s Office.  

This is an ongoing investigation.
