21 Things You Might Not Know About Me: Donny Strunk

  1. Bombardier Capital Inc, the finance division of Ski-Doo Snowmobiles and Sea-Doo Jet Skis, was the first “real job” I had after college. I spent 8 ½ years with them.
  2. As a young teen, I worked for 4 years at Fox’s Turkey Farm out by the old Harriet’s Store.
  3. While in 7th grade I broke both bones in my left arm while of all things, riding a bicycle. The break required a metal plate and 5 screws which were then removed a year later.
  4. I have a beautiful daughter, Kortney, who lives in Spooner and one handsome Son, Jorie, who resides in Duluth.
  5. Except for my college days at UW-Superior and about 3 years following college, Spooner has always been my home.
  6. My Great Grandmother on my Dad’s side, Anna Nelson, lived in Spooner and made it to the ripe ole age of 105. She was born in 1889 and lived until 1994.
  7. I am currently employed by Shell Lake State Bank in the Spooner Office as the branch manager and absolutely LOVE my job.
  8. Growing up I was lucky to have 4 brothers and 1 sister. To this day the entire family is very close knit.
  9. While in college, one of my favorite past times was Sunday night and getting together with the guys to watch “Cheers.”
  10. My college friend Brian and I have done an annual canoe fishing trip for 3 days and 2 nights down the Namekagon River for the last 6 years. Our route has us going about 30 miles via the river from County K landing to Danbury.
  11. I have 2 tattoos but no piercings.
  12. My favorite sports team is the Greenbay Packers. When they lose or win, it sets the tone for the upcoming week.
  13. I have a passion for running and do about 10 races per year. Most of them are 5k. I have done half marathons but never a full marathon.
  14. So far, I have been blessed with one grandson. Being a grandpa is the best thing ever.
  15. I had the best childhood growing up. Not only did I have my 5 siblings but I grew up next to my 1st cousin, Steve, who is only 3 days older than me but also our great friend AJ Salquist who is only 3 months younger than me. We had a lot of great years.
  16. I love the ocean. One of my favorite spots to go in the middle of the Winter is Cozumel Mexico. Scuba diving is an “other world” experience.
  17. I have been involved with Habitat for Humanity for the last 12 years and am currently the acting Chair Person for Wild Rivers Habitat for Humanity.
  18. I have attended Spooner Wesleyan since 1999 and have done the snow removal on their sidewalks for the last 15 years.
  19. My favorite season is Summer. Bring on the “heat!”
  20. I had my appendix removed while I was in Colchester Vermont attending a business meeting.
  21. Although I love to play, my golf game is in big need of help!
