27-Year-Old Dies In Single-Vehicle Crash On Hwy 40 In Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, WI — Early Wednesday morning, November 13, 2024, a single-vehicle crash on Hwy 40 at County Hwy B resulted in the tragic death of 27-year-old Kyle Baker.

The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene at approximately 1:41a after receiving reports of a crash where Baker had been ejected from his vehicle.

Preliminary investigations indicate that Baker was traveling northbound on Hwy 40 when his vehicle veered off the road, entered a ditch, and overturned multiple times.

Emergency responders from the Chippewa Fire District Fire Department, Chippewa Fire District Ambulance Service, and the Mayo Clinic Helicopter Ambulance Service arrived at the scene and administered life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, Baker was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chippewa County Sheriff Hakes reported that alcohol is suspected to have contributed to the crash.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
