Authorities: Alcohol 'Appears to be Factor' in Single-Vehicle Crash in Barron County

BARRON COUNTY -- A single-vehicle crash in Barron County on Saturday resulted in a 28-year-old being airlifted to Mayo in Eau Claire where he was "listed in critical condition", according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff's Office.

(Press Release) -- On September 8, 2018, at 2:00 a.m., the Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a call of a one vehicle crash on County Road A and 18 1⁄2 Street, east of Dallas. Deputies from the Barron County Sheriff’s Department along with the Dallas Fire Department, Chetek Fire Department, Chetek Ambulance and Life Link Helicopter all responded to the scene.

Preliminary investigation shows the operator of vehicle Phillip Kurtz, 28 of Dallas, was westbound on County Road A when his vehicle went onto the shoulder. He then over corrected which caused his vehicle to go into the eastbound lanes and off the road striking some trees. Kurtz was ejected from the vehicle and was airlifted to Mayo Eau Claire where he was listed in critical condition.

Alcohol appears to be factor in this crash.
