POLK COUNTY -- For the second straight Saturday, authorities in Polk County say a UTV crash has occurred. This most recent crash involves multiple people following last week’s fatal crash that took the life of a rural Turtle Lake man.
On Saturday December 5th, 2020 at 1607hrs, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call regarding a UTV accident which had occurred on private property near 1586 Reidner Ln. on the West side of Loveless Lake in the Township of Balsam Lake.
It was reported that 5 juvenile passengers and an adult female driver were involved. Some of the children were reported to have sustained significant injuries.
Local law enforcement, first responders/fire departments, and ambulance crews were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, it was determined that two med-flight helicopters would be activated.
The scene of the accident was on the shore of Loveless Lake at the bottom of a steep trail on private property.
The operator of the UTV had lost control of the vehicle towards the bottom of the trail and ultimately the UTV rolled on its side, ejecting some of the occupants and pinning one of the children underneath it.
Two of the children were transported by helicopter to Regions Hospital, and the remainder of the occupants were treated on scene or at local hospitals for minor injuries.
All occupants are expected to make full recoveries.
This incident is being investigated by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Alcohol was not a contributing factor.
