$50K Bond Ordered For Convicted Sex Offender Facing New Charges Of Sexual Assault Of Child

WASHBURN COUNTY -- A recent investigation by the Spooner Police Department has led to new charges of Sexual Assault of Child Under Age 16 for convicted sex offender Daniel Mitchell, 32 years of age, from Stone Lake, WI.

The Spooner Police Department received a report of an alleged sexual assault. During the subsequent investigation, Officers received statements from the alleged victim as well as other witnesses alleging that Mitchell had sexual contact with the victim on at least two occasions during November and December 2019.

Mitchell was taken into custody, however, he allegedly refused to be interviewed by Law Enforcement regarding the accusations against him.

A criminal complaint has been filed against Mitchell, charging him with two counts of Class C Felony Sexual Assault of Child Under 16 Years of Age. He faces a possible maximum sentence of 80 years confinement in state prison if convicted as charged.

Mitchell previously served a prison term for a conviction of sexual assault, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.

Wisconsin’s Sex Offender Registry shows that Mitchell is required to register for life as a sex offender due to a previous conviction of Second Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.

The Wisconsin Department of Corrections online offender search indicates that Mitchell was released from prison on extended supervision in September 2019.

At a hearing on January 3, 2020, Mitchell was placed on a $50,000 cash bail bond according to online circuit court records and he is scheduled to have an Initial Appearance hearing on January 10, 2020.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
