9-Year-Old Dies After Drowning Incident in Polk County

POLK COUNTY, WI — A 9-year-old child has died following a drowning incident Tuesday evening at Campfire Cove Aqua Park in rural Balsam Lake, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

On Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 8:14 pm, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Call Center received a report of a drowning at Campfire Cove Aqua Park, located at 956 165th Avenue in Rural Balsam Lake, WI. Sheriff’s Deputies, EMS, and First Responders were sent to the scene where a 9-year-old victim was located.

Life-saving measures were immediately in progress, and an air ambulance was dispatched to the scene. Despite all the efforts of the witnesses and responders, the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This incident remains under investigation by the Polk County Sheriff’s Office and the Polk County Medical Examiner.

Assisting with this incident were Apple River Fire and First Responders, Northwestern Municipal EMS, Life Link Air Ambulance, and on-site witnesses.
