Tractor Trailer Collision on US 53 Near Haugen

(Update - 4:11p) - The Wisconsin State Patrol has issued the following update:

At 7:38 AM on Tuesday October 17, 2017 a crash occurred on US 53 NB/SB at 27th Ave in BARRON County near HAUGEN.

Assisting agencies included Barron Co. Sheriff’s Dept., LMC Ambulance, Rice Lake Police Dept, Rice Lake Fire Dept., Haugen First Responders, and Barron Co. HWY Dept..

The crash involved no fatalities or injuries. 

The details of the crash are as follows:

Two semi units were involved in a crash on northbound USH-53 near 27th ave this morning, south of the Village of Haugen.

The crash occurred when the first semi unit, which was parked on the right-hand shoulder of Hwy 53 northbound, decided to turn across both northbound lanes to utilize the median cross-over and access the south bound lanes of Hwy 53. This semi unit turned into the path of another north bound semi. The collision caused both semi units to travel into the median.

No one was injured, but traffic was limited to just one lane in each direction for 3 hours while the semi units were removed.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.


(Update - 9:10a) - Emergency Services of Barron County has issued the following release.

At 7:45am on October 17th, two tractor-trailers collided in the median on Hwy 53 at 26th Avenue. No injuries were reported from the drivers, and emergency crews are currently on scene. The southbound lanes will be temporarily closed while the tractors are removed from the median.
