In March of 2015, charges were filed in Burnett County Circuit Court against William Cauley for 10 counts of Possession of Child Pornography, as well as 1 count of Possession of Marijuana and 1 count of Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and 1 count of Felony Bail Jump. According to public record, Cauley was investigated by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and the results of that investigation revealed that Cauley was in possession of many images and movies containing pornographic images of pre-pubescent juveniles. Cauley received a sentence of 4 years and 6 months of initial confinement in Wisconsin State Prison effective April 26th, followed by 5 years and 6 months of extended supervision by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections after his release from prison.

Just days prior to that sentencing, Burnett County Sheriff's Department received information that Cauley was suspected of repeated sexual assault of a child. The subsequent investigation resulted in charges being filed against Cauley in August of 2016 for repeated sexual assault of the same child and incest with a child.

According to public record, a Writ of Habeaus Corpus was filed for William Cauley in Burnett County Circuit Court on October 21st, 2016. The Wisconsin DOC's public website indicates that Cauley was transported from Jackson Correctional Institute in Black River Falls to Burnett County on October 25th and Cauley appeared once again Burnett County Circuit Court on October 26th, 2016 to face his new charges.

Cauley plead guilty that same day to an amended charge of Causing Mental Harm to a Child (a Class F Felony); the charge of Incest with a Child was dismissed.

The Court sentenced Cauley to an additional 2 years in State Prison effective immediately and to be served consecutively to his current sentence and to be followed by 8 additional and consecutive years of supervision by WI, DOC, Probation and Parole. Cauley was also ordered to undergo sex offender evaluation and follow through with any recommendations of his Parole Agent upon release.
