Adult Arrested Following Shell Lake House Fire That Destroyed Residence

NORTHWEST WISCONSIN — An adult has been arrested in connection with a structure fire at a Shell Lake residence that resulted in significant damage and a total loss, according to a press release from the St. Croix Tribal Police Department.

On Monday, May 4, 2026, St. Croix Tribal law enforcement and emergency responders were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a residence on Billy Boy Lane in Shell Lake. Officers arrived on scene and observed an active fire involving the residence. Two individuals were outside the home, and it was confirmed that no one remained inside.

Fire personnel, EMS, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded to assist, and the fire was brought under control. During the investigation, authorities learned that a person at the scene was involved in activity related to how the fire started.

An adult was arrested in connection with the incident, and the case will be referred to the Burnett County District Attorney's Office for charging. No injuries were reported. The residence sustained significant damage and is considered a total loss.

The St. Croix Tribal Police Department thanks the St. Croix Hertel, Siren, and Shell Lake Fire Departments, North Memorial Ambulance, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, St. Croix Tribal Emergency Management, and the St. Croix Tribe for their assistance.

This incident remains under investigation.
