Adult HPV Vaccination Completion Grant Ends Soon

Attention Washburn County Adult Residents ages 19-26 years; time is running out for you to complete the 3-shot HPV Series at NO cost to you.  The Grant ends June 30, 2017.

HPV, the Human Papilloma Virus, can cause genital warts and cervical, oral, penile and rectal cancers.  The current vaccine protects against 9 strains of the virus which are responsible for over 80 percent of these cancers.  Even if you have been diagnosed with HPV, it is recommended that you complete the series.

If you Do Not have insurance or your insurance Does Not pay for the HPV vaccine (this includes those with Family Planning Only Services), you can complete the vaccine series for No Charge at the Washburn County Health Department through June 30, 2017.

Persons with private insurance that pays for the HPV series, Medical Assistance or BadgerCare+ should get the vaccine from their Medical Provider.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), recommends that if you started the 3-shot HPV Vaccine Series, that you complete it, even if you are over the age of 27.  You do not need to start over, just pick up where you left off and get shot #2 and/or #3.

After June 30, 2017, residents 19-26 years of age can still complete the HPV series, through their Medical Provider, for a fee ranging from $ 252.00 to $365.00 per shot, depending on the Clinic. 

HPV vaccine for Children 9 – 18 years of age, remains available from local medical providers and Health Departments, at No Charge for those eligible for the Vaccine For Children Program (VFC), including those with BadgerCare+.
