BURNETT COUNTY -- An arrest warrant has been issued for Shane M. Bearheart after he allegedly fled from a traffic stop in Burnett County.

On May 5, 2022, at around 4:30 in the morning, a Burnett County Sheriff’s Deputy observed a vehicle leaving the Holiday gas station in Siren, WI. The vehicle did not have its headlights on and it stopped and started moving again multiple times as it entered the roadway. The vehicle ultimately traveled eastbound and the headlights did get turned on. The Deputy followed the vehicle and called for another squad car.

The Deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver provided a Wisconsin ID card identifying himself as Shane Bearheart. While speaking with Bearheart, the Deputy observed a toy gun on the dash on the passenger side, a plastic baggy and a piece of aluminum foil wrapped up into a bundle, and a roll of aluminum foil sitting on the passenger seat.

A second squad vehicle arrived on the scene, and the Deputy instructed Bearheart to exit the vehicle, however, Bearheart shifted the vehicle into drive and drove away from the scene.

The criminal complaint goes on to state that a pursuit ensued that lasted nearly 7 miles. At one point the suspect vehicle was traveling southbound in the northbound lane of State Road 35/70, traveling at speeds of 75 mph. The vehicle crossed over to the southbound lane near Chuck Garage before entering the ditch and returning to the northbound lane. The vehicle turned onto Airport Road, traveling at 80 mph, and then turned south on Old 35. The pursuit was ultimately terminated out of safety concerns.

Bearheart is charged with Class I Felony Fleeing an Officer, and Misdemeanor Obstructing an Officer.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Bearheart, a female passenger was in the back seat of the vehicle, however, no criminal charges were located for that person in online court records at the time of this post, so her name is not included here.

Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of Shane M. Bearheart may contact the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office at 715-349-2121.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
