Assembly Honors Cody Kargus As 'Hometown Hero'

MADISON, WI – The Wisconsin State Assembly met on April 22 to vote on a workforce development package. However, the Assembly began its session by recognizing Pastor Cody Kargus of Rice Lake’s Maranatha Evangelical Free Church as a Hometown Hero.

“The Hometown Hero program recognizes Wisconsin residents who go above and beyond to make a difference,” State Rep. Dave Armstrong (R-Rice Lake) explained. “It’s fascinating to hear the stories during Hometown Hero presentations, and Cody was an obvious choice, given how much he does for the community. It was an honor to nominate him.”

In addition to serving as Senior Pastor at Maranatha, Kargus is chaplain for all the municipal police departments in Barron County, as well as for the Barron County Sheriff’s Department.

“On top of serving his own congregation, Cody makes himself available to our local law enforcement when they need spiritual guidance or even simply comfort,” Representative Armstrong said. “He’s been there for them and their families during truly awful times, such as the accidental drowning death of a child in 2019 and the 2023 murders of Officers Emily Breidenbach and Hunter Scheel in the line of duty. I honestly don’t know how he does it, but I’m grateful for all he does and am proud to call him my friend.”
