Barron Co. Sheriff’s Dept. & Red Cedar Church to Launch Red Cedar Restart Program

Press Release - The Barron County Sheriff’s Department announces a partnership with Red Cedar Church to launch the Red Cedar Restart Program. This is an exciting new program designed to assist people with programming and transition from jail back into the society.

We need to stop the revolving door of the jail and this is the program we hope does this stated Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald. This partnership was created to work on some programming and coaching while in jail and continue outside the walls of the jail. I no longer want to just wish them good luck and hope they don’t come back here - they need support and Red Cedar Church is going to provide that to them.

Ashley Rayment, Outreach Director from Red Cedar Church brought this idea to the sheriff’s department with the idea that no one should be known for the worst thing they have done and that transition from jail back to being a contributing member of our community is possible for everyone.

This program will focus on three areas.

  •  In Jail Re-entry preparation – 8-week course
  •  Re-entry coaching 12-month commitment by the coach and the participant with a minimum of 1-hour a week
  •  Community based support - sober and supportive environment

Our first class launched today with 20 members taking part with the hope to add more after our first 8-week course.

Red Cedar Church hopes to partner with other area churches or groups to expand this program and continue to help make Barron County even better.

Sheriff Fitzgerald stated that for some people this will be just knowing that someone is out there cheering them on to succeed and for others, it might be knowing there is a safe place where they can go that will help them stay sober. We need a change to try and stop some of the crimes in the county and I believe this is the program to start that change.

Per Chris Fitzgerald, Barron County Sheriff
