Barron Man Among Two Who Died in Douglas County Traffic Crash

WISCONSIN — Two people, including a Barron man, died following a traffic crash in Douglas County Tuesday morning, according to a press release from the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Two persons were killed in a traffic crash on CTH A in the Town of Superior, Tuesday morning, July 7, 2026. The crash was reported to Douglas County 911 at 7:54am about a quarter mile south of Larson Rd.

The victims are identified as Martha Lippai, 62, of Superior, and Devern Bender, 36 of Barron, WI.

Lippai was having a wooden storage shed delivered to her property on CTH A by Bender. Initial investigation indicates Lippai and Bender were standing at the rear of the flatbed semi-truck/trailer parked along northbound CTH A when they were struck by a northbound Honda Pilot driven by Samantha Carlson, 34, Town of Summit, before the Honda crashed into the rear of the trailer.

Lippai and Bender were pronounced dead at the scene. Carlson was extricated from her vehicle and transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

CTH A was closed for several hours from Larson Rd to Half Mile Rd as the scene was reconstructed and cleared.

The crash remains under investigation by the Douglas County Sheriff's and Medical Examiner's Offices, and the Wisconsin State Patrol. Also responding to this incident was Mayo Ambulance, Towns of Superior and Summit VFD and first responders.
