Beehler, Spooner Native, Commits to Cornell

Press Release - Emily M. Beehler, a senior at Hayward High School and a member of the Minnesota North 18-1 National Volleyball team has announced her commitment to enroll at Cornell College (Mount Vernon, IA) and play collegiate volleyball.

The Cornell Rams play in the Midwest Conference (MWC), and have won five consecutive conference titles. This last season, they would have been playing in their sixth straight NCAA Division III Tournament but lost in the MWC Championship.

Beehler, a Hayward transfer from Spooner, WI, was a varsity starter (all-around) as a 9th grader and earned 4 varsity letters for volleyball. In her last two seasons of high school play, Beehler lead Hayward in serves aces. In her senior year, Beehler led her high school team in kills, aces, and serve receive. She was second in digs.

“I’m super excited to be committed to a great school and respected program. I chose to play for the Rams based on their rare block scheduling (one class every 18 days) and the vibe the campus gives off. When I went on my overnight visit, the gym was packed. The hometown pride was contagious. It seemed like all of ‘Mount Vernon’ were in the gym cheering on their team. Coach (Jeff) Meeker’s style of coaching really made a lasting impression on me. I can’t pass up the opportunity to play for him.” states Beehler.

Beehler has been on the “A” honor roll since her freshman year, and will graduate with honors.

“It gives me goose bumps remembering the day that Emily committed. She couldn’t contain her excitement. She wisely said--- ‘this was the best decision I’ve ever made.’ Jayne and I are extremely thankful for programs like Minnesota North that afford small town rural athletes with big city opportunities and exposure to collegiate recruiting.” states Chris Beehler, Emily’s father.

Beehler will join the Rams in August.

She earned Cornell’s prestigious Dean’s Scholarship and other Cornell scholarships for her academics, community leadership and engagement. She is undecided on a Major.
