POLK COUNTY -- A couple years ago, DN Campground, located in the Town of Apple River (Polk County) and the Apple River Fire Department began hosting Monday night bingo. The goal was simple - to raise some money for the local fire department. To say it has been wildly successful would be an understatement.
Most Mondays, there are 15-20 players and when the progressive pot grows, it’s standing room only. This success is wholly due to the wonderful members of the community who have made fire department bingo part of their Monday night routine.
As a result of these folks, the fire Department was able to make its first large purchase using only bingo funds. It purchased a battery operated Genesis Combination (combi) cutter / spreader extrication tool. This tool will allow the fire department to quickly begin rescue operations on trapped car accident victims. When seconds and minutes matter, this tool will be able to help save lives.
“On behalf of the Apple River Fire Department, we want to say thank you to Barb and all of the folks at DN Campground, and we especially want to thank our wonderful community for its support” said Fire Chief Alec Adams. He added, “Keep coming to Bingo on Mondays!!!”
