BURNETT COUNTY -- The Blizzard squirt team won the WAHA 4A State hockey tournament over the weekend of March 5-7 in Marinette. The squirts had an amazing year with a 30-4-0 record, winning their last 24 straight games in a row!
Their first game was Saturday morning against Marinette. The team started out slow trailing 0-2 in the first two periods, but came back strong in the third defeating Marinette 4-2. Talon Imme scored 3 goals and Gavyn Hill scored 1 goal.
The second game was later that evening against Altoona. The team came out strong as a whole the entire game defeating Altoona 7-0. Talon Imme scored 6 goals and Mason Mattson scored 1 goal. Their defense was strong helping out their rock star goalie, Levi Randt, with his shutout.
The third game was Sunday afternoon against Tomahawk. Once again, the team came out strong and each kid played their positions well! Maybe giving their parents a few small heart attacks in the first few minutes, but quickly took a strong lead defeating Tomahawk 12-6 in the championship game! Talon Imme scored 10 goals, Mason Mattson scored 1 goal and Ryan Winberg scored 1 goal.
Coach Adam Imme said, “We have such an amazing roster of 12 kids, each with equally amazing parents, who have traveled all over the state supporting their kids! Many nights in hotels on the road brought us together as a big ‘hockey family,’ and those nights bonding over pizza parties in hotel rooms made what we did even that much more special. It was an especially tough year dealing with the covid pandemic, but the kids never complained about wearing masks. We were all just happy to be on the ice. I couldn’t be more proud of my players and fellow coaches.”
