BLOOMER, WI — A suspect in an armed home invasion was taken into custody Saturday in Rusk County after authorities located him at a residence in Washington Township, according to a press release from the Bloomer Police Department.

Bloomer man taken into custody after armed home invasion:
On Friday, 08-14-2026 at approximately 21:30, a Bloomer resident reported a burglary in progress with multiple rounds being fired and man breaking into his house. The residents were able to escape and fled the scene as the suspect was entering the home. A Bloomer Officer met the victims and Chippewa County Sheriff's deputies responded to the victim's residence.
Deputies arrived on scene and cleared the residence. Damage was observed to the front door with holes punched in the door and the decorative glass portion being shattered. Home security video was sent to Deputies on scene and a male party was observed entering the home through the broken glass portion of the door, carrying a scoped long riffle.
The residence was rechecked and there was no indication of shots being fired into the home. Multiple Bloomer Police Officers and Chippewa County Sheriffs deputies searched the area throughout the night and following morning attempting to locate the suspect. It was determined this was a targeted attack and isolated incident, and there was no danger to the general public. The suspect was known to the victims.
After continued investigation on Saturday 08-15-2026, a location was developed for the suspect in Washington Township of Rusk County.
Chippewa County Sheriff's Department, Rusk County Sheriff's Department, and Bloomer Police Department officers responded to the residence and the suspect was observed. The Barron-Rusk ERT team was summoned the scene and the suspect eventually exited and surrendered peacefully without incident.
The suspect is currently being held in the Chippewa County Jail on multiple charges.
As this case is still under investigation, no further information will be released at this time.
