BURNETT COUNTY -- The body of a 24-year-old was recovered on Saturday morning after authorities in Burnett County responded to a call of a possible drowning the prior day, according to a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff's Office.

On August 20, 2021 at 5:07 p.m., Burnett County Dispatch received a report of a possible drowning on Birch Island Lake, Town of Jackson in Burnett County. Burnett County Deputies and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources Conservation Wardens responded to the scene along with multiple fire departments.

Witnesses told deputies that Adeoluwa Olaniyan, 24 years old, from Chicago, IL had been boating with friends. They had anchored the boat and Mr. Olaniyan had jumped into the water. Witnesses stated that Mr. Olaniyan immediately started to struggle and went under water. They immediately pulled the anchor and started searching the area. Many citizens also began searching the area by boat along with members of several fire departments. The Jackson Fire Dive team also searched.

The search was halted at 9:30 p.m. due to darkness.

The search was resumed at daylight on 08/21/2021. Mr. Olaniyan’s body was located and recovered at 6:52 a.m.
