RUSK COUNTY -- The body of Scott Link, a 61-year-old man from the Chetek area, was recovered today after being reported missing by his family on Monday, May 13, 2024. A kayaker discovered what they believed to be Mr. Link, leading to the recovery and confirmation of his death by officials on the scene. Authorities do not suspect foul play.

Sheriff Jeff Wallace expressed condolences, stating, "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Mr. Link." He also extended gratitude to the numerous agencies involved in the search efforts.

The agencies assisting in locating Mr. Link included the Chetek Fire Department & Dive Team, Weyerhaeuser Fire Department, New Auburn Fire Department, Bruce Fire Department, Cameron Fire Department, Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Wisconsin State Patrol, and Sawyer County Search & Rescue.

Previous Efforts to Locate Mr. Link

Earlier this week, the Rusk County Sheriff's Office coordinated an extensive search for Mr. Link, who was last seen leaving his home late Friday, May 10, or early Saturday, May 11. Search efforts were conducted by foot, air, and water, employing ground searches, drones, planes, and the Chetek Fire Department Dive Team.

Sheriff Wallace had previously urged anyone with information about Mr. Link's whereabouts to contact Investigator Steve Gronski at the non-emergency line, (715) 532-2200.

The community's efforts and collaboration in the search for Mr. Link demonstrate the commitment and solidarity of local agencies in times of need.
