In these next couple of installments, we are going to get more into the science and opposing viewpoints of creation and what this means for us. This is NOT a Bible vs science issue – but rather it is ultimately about the AUTHORITY of God’s Word (not mine as so many comments say), that we can trust it from cover to cover.

As Christians, we need to be equipped and “Be ready at all times to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” 1 Peter 3:15. Regardless of what some on here ‘think’, I do have respect for opposing religions and opposing views. Just because I don’t agree with them doesn’t mean I hate them or don’t respect them. 

Did you know that 50-75% of “Christian” students will lose their faith by the time they leave college? This is alarming and we should be VERY concerned. After working with our youth for over 4 years, I believe it is because many of the students have beliefs with NO convictions. They don’t OWN their faith yet. They believe what they are told by their Youth Pastor, their Pastor, what their parents told them, but they have not internalized it yet.

What happens when our students (and even ourselves) come up against scientists with Ph.d’s? We might know “what” we believe, but do we know “why” we believe?

But when students are asked (or even yourself): “Do you believe the Bible is the inspired Word of God,” most would answer: “Of course.” But when asked the next question: “How do you KNOW it’s the inspired Word of God?” Not so many are ready with an answer. The answer most come up with are: “Because it says it is. Because I believe it is. Because it was written by God. Because that’s what I’ve been taught…”

If you can’t even answer questions like those, what happens when people come and ask you these kinds of questions: “If God created the universe, who created God? Isn’t evolution “science” and creation just a “religion? Why do so many scientists believe in evolution? Can you really trust the Genesis creation account? Haven’t scientists disproven the Bible? Where did all the water go after the flood? What about all the ‘ape-men?’ Did God really create everything in 6 days? Does carbon dating disprove the Bible? Where did all the races come from…”

“The heart cannot rejoice in what the mind rejects.” If your struggling with questions like these or others, how are you gonna be excited about your faith? How eager are you gonna be to share your faith with others? How equipped are you going to be to mentor your own children? Do you really “believe” what you believe?

Next week we are going to talk about the science of the origin of the universe, and we have to remember what KIND of ‘science’ we are talking about. There are basically 2 kinds of ‘science.’ OPERATIONAL SCIENCE – Is what we can observe: the lab tests, things like computers, the space shuttle, cures for diseases, etc. Then there is HISTORICAL SCIENCE – and these are events that happened in the past when there was no one around to see it! So people then make guesses and assumptions (theories) as to what happened. 

What glasses are we looking through? We ALL have the exact same evidence but we ALL make assumptions based on our worldviews. NOTHING is scientifically proven when it comes to historical science.  

Next week we will look at some of the “theories” taught in our schools, what scientists say about them, how we’ve been duped into believing these “theories” as fact, and how there is one particular “theory” which most scientists and schools won’t teach and ask why? Then we will go to God’s Word and see what the Creator of it all has to say. Blessings to you all. Jer. 33:3.
