Brian Cole continues his weekly message on DrydenWire.com
Last week I talked about belief and unbelief in Jesus Christ and the Bible. Today I want to talk about a related subject: that of hope and hopelessness. How is that related? Bear with me.
For 33 years I wandered this planet with no hope. I had no belief in anything other than what pleased me. I followed religions that offered little or no hope, and there were times of belief in nothing.
My view of afterlife changed periodically from the belief that when we die we die, and there is no more. At times, I believed in reincarnation, and times I believed that when I died I became one with everything.
My motivation through life never really changed no matter what my current beliefs were. I Basically lived a selfish life and had only myself and what I wanted at the core of all I did. I was a drifter and allowed the tides of Self direct my life.
People were only good for one thing: to be used. If I couldn’t use you in some way, you meant nothing to me and would discard you in a heartbeat. There was only really one purpose I had for most of my life: to do the things that made me feel good.
Even at my darkest most satanic moments in life, I would tell people that I was basically a good person. That is how darkened our minds are. To think that there is any good in us at all is almost laughable if it wasn’t so serious.
So, here is where we need to ask ourselves a couple serious questions. If you have the thought that there is no God, or, you believe in any other god than that of the person of Jesus Christ: what is your purpose in life? Do you have purpose? Do you have hope? Where do you find fulfillment and satisfaction?
If you believe in your heart that there is no God, why even continue on in life? If you came from pond scum and/or were evolved from monkeys, and the earth and universe just kinda happened, then what is the purpose in life? What does it matter? What motivates you? For what reason do you do the things you do, other than out of selfish ambition?
When we take God out of the equation, there is NO purpose and no hope. I am not saying this is a reason to believe in God, but a RESULT of belief in the God who created us.
We see the gradual decline of our culture and the people in it, and this is a direct result of a society who is slowly removing God from their lives. Family systems are failing, crime is always rising, drugs are increasingly becoming an epidemic and people are dying from it left and right. More and more people are committing suicide, and our children are taking their own lives in alarming numbers. Issues like sex trafficking are becoming bigger issues, and crimes are becoming more sickening and brutal, yet we hardly bat an eye because we are getting so used to it.
THIS is the result of unbelief: Hopelessness.
2 Peter 3:9 says that Jesus doesn’t wish to see anyone perish. And Jesus said in Luke 4:18-19 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed...” Do ya want to be set free? Do you desire purpose? Jer. 33:3 “Call unto me and I will answer you and I will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known.” It’s a simple call. Make it today!
