After being a drug addict and living the criminal lifestyle for 33 years, learning to now live a different way of life and function in society as normal people do was not going to be an easy task. It wasn’t just about “stopping” the things I used to do, but, after living that way so long I had to learn how to function in society by moral standards. I had no morals and had created my own standards and now had to learn to function in a completely different reality. NOT easy!
As I talked about in “Addictions: Part 3 “ last week, we have to be ready and willing to leave behind all we once knew: a complete paradigm shift! I was ready for that but didn’t know how to go about DOING it.
Every new motorcycle and car comes with owner’s manuals, and the owner manual’s for me had been the hundreds of occult books which guided my life.
But, as is stated in these verses, the answer is The Word Of God! Verse 97 explains that if we meditate on God’s Word and fill our minds with it rather than social media, TV, newspapers, video games, and junk novels and movies, we become wise.
It teaches us how to live! We become wiser than our enemies because now we don’t become distracted or seduced by their lies. How do we have more understanding than even our teachers? Our typical human thoughts come and go and are guided by that which is around us, by who we hang around with, what we watch, what we read. But when they are based on God’s Word they become true!
By learning to use the Bible for ourselves we can have more understanding than our teachers because we now have gone to the very source of wisdom! And God deals with each of us differently. There is no more wisdom than a personal relationship with Jesus and listening to His voice! What are you listening to today? Is it God’s Word or the things of this world which you are filling your mind most each day?
Filling yourself with the Wisdom of God’s Word, mingled with the Holy Spirt inside of you is what changes you. People don’t change you, Pastors don’t change you, church doesn’t change you... Romans 12:2 says: “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God...”
The transformation begins with reading God’s Word! It’s what changed me, it’s what transformed me, it’s what made me a new creation! I had listened to the world and the lies of the enemy for so long that people gave up on me. I gave up hope. But God is God, and much more powerful than the enemy. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy, but Jesus comes to give life, and life more abundantly! I now am an all-in follower of Jesus and living the abundant life promised to me in His Word. Are you? Jer. 33:3.
