About Land Rich, Cash Poor
The award-winning Land Rich, Cash Poor weaves hidden eras of history driving the disappearance of America’s family farms with the four-generation fight for survival of Reisinger’s own family farm — from the Depression to today. The book reveals how the decline of family farms is not only devastating rural areas but also contributing to America’s broader struggles with rising food costs, declining food quality, and even national and mental health crises.
The book has been widely praised, earning “Book of the Year” honors from the nonpartisan Farm Foundation, a Readers’ Favorite Book Award, and a C-SPAN Author Series selection.
The Associated Press called it “an anthem to the family farm in America... few are as lyrically written or as deeply and personally detailed.”
Kirkus Reviews described it as “a convincingly argued and often poignant take on the decline of the American farmer.”
Michael Perry, New York Times bestselling author of Population: 485, wrote: “This deeply personal tale of a family farm—and family—teetering on the brink succeeds by showing us this is not a rural crisis, this is an American crisis.”
Mike Gousha, Emmy Award–winning journalist, added: “A highly personal story of the disappearing American farmer. Well worth reading for those who care about what we eat and where it comes from.”
