Case Charging Barronett Man With Sexual Assault Dismissed

WASHBURN COUNTY -- A case filed in Washburn County Circuit Court charging a Barronett, WI man with Class C Felony 2nd Degree Sexual Assault and Class I Felony Exposing Genitals has been dismissed.

DrydenWire reported in April 2019, that Richard Romportl, of Barronett, WI was facing charges after law enforcement investigated a report that Romportl had allegedly sexually assaulted a 16-year-old victim.

The case against Romportl was scheduled for a jury trial in May 2021, however, online circuit court records show that on May 5, 2021, the case was dismissed by motion of the prosecutor.

The motion to dismiss states that the victim in the matter expressed adamantly to the State that they did not wish to participate in the trial or in the case any longer.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
