RUSK COUNTY -- The Court has ordered a $10,000 cash bond for Scott Read on additional charges of child sexual assault filed against him in Rusk County Circuit Court.
Criminal charges of Class B Felony 1st Degree Sexual Assault of a Child Under Age 12; Class B Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child; Class C Felony Incest; Class I Felony Possession of THC - 2nd & Subsequent; and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia were filed against Read in March 2022. Read allegedly began sexually assaulting a child in 2014 when the child was approximately 5 years old and continued until 2021.
Additional criminal charges were filed against Read on April 7, 2022, in two separate criminal complaints. Online circuit court records show that he is charged with Class B Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child (3 or more 1st-degree acts), Class C Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of Same Child (At Least 3 Violations of 1st or 2nd Degree Sexual Assault), and Class C Felony 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child.
The criminal complaints allege that from 2006 through 2016, Read repeatedly sexually assaulted a child who would have been age 6 when the assaults started and that from October 2011 through October 2014, Read repeatedly sexually assaulted another child who would have been age 13 when the assaults started. Details of the sexual assault allegations are included in the criminal complaints, however, DrydenWire has chosen to not include that information in this post.
Read appeared on April 19, 2022, for an adjourned initial appearance on his Rusk County court cases. The Hon. Steven P. Anderson ordered a $10,000 cash bond regarding the new sexual assault charges filed against Read. Conditions of bond prohibit Read from having contact with the victims in the cases.
Two other complaints were filed against Read in Rusk County Circuit Court in April 2022 charging him with Class H Felony Bail Jumping and Misdemeanor Bail Jumping.
Read appeared most recently on May 10, 2022, while in custody, for preliminary examination hearings regarding all of the sexual assault charges filed against him, and the Hon. Steven P. Anderson found probable cause to bind all the cases over for trial. Read is scheduled to appear again in June 2022.
