Charges Filed Against Man Who Crashed Into Girl Scout Troop

CHIPPEWA COUNTY -- A criminal complaint has been filed in Chippewa County Circuit Court against the 21-year-old man who drove off the road and crashed into a Girl Scout Troop on November 3, 2018.

Colten Treu is charged with 4 counts of Class C Felony Homicide by Intoxicated Use of Vehicle (2nd+), 4 counts of Class D Felony Hit and Run-Involve Death, 1 count of Class E Felony Hit and Run-Involve Great Bodily Harm, 1 count of Class H Felony Bail Jumping, and 1 count of Misdemeanor Intentionally Abuse Hazardous Substance.

These charges stem from the incident in which the vehicle that Treu was driving left the roadway in Lake Hallie, WI on November 3, 2018, resulting in the death of 3 girls and 1 woman.

According to a press release from the Lake Hallie Police Department, Treu admitted to intentionally inhaling chemical vapors or ‘Huffing’ just prior to the incident.

Online circuit court records show that Treu was placed on a $250,000 cash bail bond at a hearing held on November 5, 2018.

Treu is scheduled to appear again on his charges in December 2018.
