Chetek Police Discover Fentanyl During Early Morning Incident

CHETEK, WI – In the early hours of February 23, 2024, Chetek Police made a startling discovery while on patrol. At approximately 2:22a, officers found a male subject lying unresponsive on the sidewalk at the intersection of 2nd and Sexton Street.

The individual, whose identity has not been disclosed, was barely breathing and in need of immediate medical attention. Chetek Ambulance responded to the scene to provide aid.

During the course of treatment, several items fell from the man's pockets, raising suspicion of possible drug use. Among these items was a pack of cigarettes, which upon inspection, revealed four aluminum foil-wrapped bindles.

Upon further investigation, officers discovered that the bindles contained a white powdered substance. Field tests confirmed the substance to be Fentanyl, totaling approximately 4 grams of the dangerous drug.

The male suspect was swiftly transported to Barron Medical Center for evaluation. Following his release from the hospital, the individual was taken into custody and transported to Barron County Jail to face multiple drug-related charges.

Subsequently, members of the Chetek Police Department and Barron County Sheriff's Office obtained a search warrant for the suspect's residence at 814 Dallas Street apt. 5. Executed at approximately 8:00p on February 23, 2024, the search yielded additional items of interest, all of which were seized and added to the case file.

The suspect remains in custody at Barron County Jail as the investigation continues, according to the Chetek Police Department. Due to the ongoing nature of the case, the identities of those involved are not being released at this time.

Chief Ron Ambrozaitis of the Chetek Police Department expressed gratitude to Chetek Ambulance and several members of the Barron County Sheriff's Department for their assistance in the matter.
