POLK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - Felony theft charges are proceeding in Polk County Circuit against Stephanie Nelson, age 50, of Frederic, WI. A criminal complaint alleges that Nelson stole checks belonging to the United Methodist Church and forged a signature on one, which enabled her to cash the check. Nelson also allegedly altered a second check, which was not written to her, and was able to cash that check as well.

The case against Nelson was originally set for a jury trial in February 2025; however, the state could not proceed to trial at that time, and dismissed that case, re-filing a new criminal complaint two days later. Nelson is due to appear again in December 2025.
