Constituents, Bills, and Listening Sessions Oh My!

Constituents, Bills, and Listening Sessions Oh My!

(Above: Ag Day at the Capitol was Wednesday. It was great hearing about the issues facing our farmers)

News Release - This week the Assembly was in session on the floor Tuesday and Thursday. On Tuesday, my colleagues and I passed AB 49 which allows patients with medical conditions to obtain CBD oil with a doctor's approval. This bill has already passed the Senate and now will go to the governor's desk to be signed into law. We also voted to pass AB 69, Right to Try, into law. This bill allows individuals with terminal illness to access investigational drugs after all other treatment options have been used.

On Thursday, we reconvened on the floor to vote on eliminating the state treasurer and removing the requirement of project labor agreements when selecting construction firms. Both AJR 2 and AB 24, respectively, passed. The joint resolution to eliminate the state treasurer has now been passed by both the Senate and the Assembly, but since this resolution will amend the state constitution it also must be voted on by you. The question of elimination of the state treasurer will be on the ballot in April 2018.

In each issue of our E-Update, I'll include a few bills or proposals that I am supporting. This weeks featured bills are:

  • AB 139: This bill allows a county clerk or clerk of courts to copy a birth certificate for submission with a passport application, if the copy is marked "FOR ADMINISTRATIVE USE." Currently, someone who copies a birth certificate may be guilty of a felony and subject to a fine of $10,000 and imprisonment.
  • AB 128: Representative Jacque and Senator Craig introduced this bill which prohibits the Group Insurance Board from entering into any contract with respect to a group health insurance plan or providing a group health insurance plan on a self-insured basis that provides abortion services, with certain exceptions.

Budget Listening Sessions

As I did two years ago, I will once again be holding listening sessions across the district to get your input on Governor Walker's proposed budget. Here is the schedule:

  • April 1, 4:00 - 5:30 pm at the Barron City Hall (1456 East La Salle Avenue, Barron)
  • April 7, 6:00 - 7:30 pm at the Rice Lake City Hall Lakeshore/Council Room (30 E Eau Claire Street, Rice Lake)
  • April 8, 10:00 - 11:30 am at the Clear Lake Community Center (560 5th Street NW, Clear Lake)

Thank you to all those who have written or called to voice their opinions or ask questions. My office is always open, and your feedback truly helps guide my thinking.
