Convicted Sex Offender Scheduled for Release in Washburn County

WASHBURN COUNTY — The public is being notified of the upcoming release of a convicted sex offender who will remain under strict supervision following his release, according to the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.

The Washburn County Sheriff's Office announces the release of GARRY K. LYGA on 06/16/2026. Mr. Lyga is a convicted sex offender, and a decision to notify the Washburn County Community of Mr. Lyga's release has been made by members of a core team that reviews Special Sex Offender Bulletin Notifications under Wisconsin Statute 301.46.

Mr. Lyga remains under the close supervision of local probation agents and is required to follow specific and detailed rules prescribed by the Department of Corrections, including no unsupervised contact with minors, not to consume drugs, comply with standard sex offender rules, and comply with electronic monitoring.

Mr. Lyga is considered homeless at this time, and when a residence is established, the public will be notified. Mr. Lyga will be subject to GPS monitoring through the Department of Corrections.
