Convicted Sex Offender To Be Homeless Following Release In Burnett County

BURNETT COUNTY -- Burnett County Sheriff Tracy Finch announced on Monday the upcoming release of Stephan West on Tuesday, August 8, 2023, from the custody of the Racine Correctional Institute.

In 2018, West was convicted of two counts of Third Degree Sexual Assault. A decision to notify the Burnett County Community of West’s release has been made by members of a core team that reviews Special Sex Offender Bulletin Notifications forwarded by the Department of Corrections.

West remains under the close supervision of local Probation Agents.

West is also required to follow specific and detailed rules prescribed by DOC including no unsupervised contact with minors, no contact with victims, cooperate with lifetime GPS Monitoring, and a lifetime registration with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registration Program.

West will be homeless in the Burnett County area.

Sex offenders have always lived in our communities, but it wasn’t until Act 440 in 1997 which enabled law enforcement to share this information with the community. This notification is not intended to increase fear; rather, it is our belief that an informed public is a safer public.
