POLK COUNTY — Nearly a year after authorities uncovered what prosecutors described as horrific conditions inside a St. Croix Falls home filled with starving and deceased cats, the criminal case against Myrna Westen (71) has reached its conclusion in Polk County Circuit Court.

Responding authorities found dozens of felines in squalid conditions, according to the criminal complaint against Westen, with overwhelming odors of ammonia, rot, and animal waste. The Hon. Judge Daniel Tolan accepted a plea agreement in her case during a hearing on May 26, 2026.
