BURNETT COUNTY, Wis. -- Burnett County Circuit Court has granted an amendment to a bail bond to allow a man charged with credit card theft in Burnett County to go to Teen Challenge, a faith-based facility that aims to help individuals of all ages overcome life-controlling problems and addictions.
Jonathan Peltier, of Columbia Heights, MN, is charged in Burnett County Circuit Court with 2 counts of Unauthorized Use of an Entity's Identifying Information, a Class H Felony; and 1 Count of Theft by Acquisition of a Credit Card, a Misdemeanor. On March 15, 2017, the Burnett County District Attorney's Office filed the criminal complaint against Peltier with a Warrant for his arrest.
These charges stemmed from a complaint received by the Grantsburg Police Department in February 2017 from an individual who stated that after stopping at the Mini Mart in Grantsburg, WI on January 31, 2017, he could not find his wallet. Reports from Chase Visa and the Indianhead Credit Union were later received by this individual alerting him to the possible unauthorized use of the cards he had in that wallet.
After officers reviewed surveillance footage from Burnett Dairy in Grantsburg, WI where one of the missing cards had been used on January 31, 2017, to purchase items, they were able to positively identify Peltier as the individual who used the card.
Peltier appeared in Burnett County Circuit Court on June 15, 2017, in custody and the Court set a $2,000 cash bond.
On June 28, 2017, Peltier appeared and the Court heard a proposal from his defense attorney to allow Peltier to be released to the Teen Challenge program. The Court granted an amendment to Peltier's bail bond, reducing his cash bond to $200 and ordering that his father transports him directly to Teen Challenge and that upon release from that program, he return immediately to the Burnett County Jail. The Court also ordered that Peltier is not to use any credit or debit cards while the criminal case is still pending.

Burnett County Issues Arrest Warrant for Alleged Credit Card Thief

A warrant has been issued by Burnett County Circuit Court for the arrest of a Minnesota man charging him with the alleged theft and use of credit cards in Burnett County.
According to the criminal complaint, Jonathan James Peltier of Columbia Heights, MN has been charged with 2 counts of Unauthorized Use of an Entity's Identifying Information, a Class H Felony; and 1 Count of Theft by Acquisition of a Credit Card, a Misdemeanor.
The Grantsburg Police Department was contacted by an individual on February 2, 2017, who reported that after stopping at the Mini Mart in Grantsburg, WI on January 31, 2017, he could not find his wallet. Reports from Chase Visa and the Indianhead Credit Union were later received by this individual alerting him to the possible unauthorized use of the cards he had in that wallet.
The criminal complaint goes on stating that some of the attempted transactions occurred in Lino Lakes, MN. The transactions were denied and the individual using the card then tried to obtain cash by using the card as a debit card.
Grantsburg Police Officers conducted a follow-up investigation and were able to obtain receipts as well as surveillance footage from Burnett Dairy in Grantsburg, WI where one of the cards had been used on January 31, 2017, to purchase items.
Based on that surveillance footage, officers were able to identify the suspect in question as Jonathan James Peltier, date of birth, 10-20-82.
The Burnett County District Attorney's Office filed criminal charges today March 15, 2017, against Peltier with a warrant for his arrest.
According to the 2nd Precinct Minneapolis, MN Crime Watch and Information Public Facebook page, Peltier was incarcerated in Anoka County Jail in February 2016 for a hold regarding Felony Possession of Burglary or Theft Tools. Public record also shows that Peltier was convicted in 2016 in Minnesota Criminal Court for Felony Fleeing and Felony Possession of Marijuana.
