BARRON COUNTY -- The Court has ordered jail time for Alec Hopke, of Shell Lake, WI, regarding his conviction in Barron County Circuit Court for Operating While Intoxicated.
DrydenWire.com reported previously in January 2019 that Hopke was facing charges of Class H Felony Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI) - 4th Offense, and Misdemeanor Hit and Run - Attended Vehicle following a crash in Barron County. Online circuit court records show that an additional charge of Class H Felony Operating w/ PAC (4th) was later added.
The charges were filed after the Barron County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call of a Hit and Run incident on 16th Street north of Barron. The caller told Law Enforcement that an oncoming car had struck her vehicle, taking out her driver’s side mirror. A Cadillac registered to Hopke was located near the reported Hit and Run incident. The driver’s side mirror of the Cadillac was damaged. When Deputies located Hopke, he confirmed that he had been driving a Cadillac, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.
Hopke’s case was previously scheduled for Jury Trial, according to online circuit court records, however at a hearing on February 17, 2020, the Court accepted the Barron County District Attorney’s motion to amend Hopke’s charge to Misdemeanor Operating While Intoxicated 3rd Offense. Details of the plea agreement on Hopke’s case were not included in the online record, however, his charges of Misdemeanor Hit and Run and Class H Felony Operating With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration 4th Offense were dismissed.
The Court has ordered Hopke to serve 140 days in jail with good time and huber privileges and with credit for 2 days served. Hopke is to pay a $4153.00 fine which includes costs and penalties in addition to restitution of $100.00. He is to undergo an Alcohol and Other Drug Assessment, and his driver’s license will be revoked for 30 months.
