Court Sentences First Of Two Charged In Barron County Burglary

BARRON COUNTY (DrydenWire) - The Court has sentenced a Chetek, WI man for a burglary conviction in Barron County Circuit Court.

Lee Lefevers (pictured left), 35, was arrested and charged along with Draven Merz (pictured right), 28, following an investigation by the Barron County Sheriff’s Department into a burglary complaint according to a press release from Barron County Sheriff Fitzgerald.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department responded to a large sand plant just south of Chetek, WI, on September 12, 2023, for a burglary in progress.

Lefevers and Merz were located and arrested by Deputies. Several search warrants were conducted following their arrests, and numerous stolen items were recovered. The Sheriff’s press release stated that Merz and Lefevers were suspected of taking over $300,000 worth of equipment and items from the area.

UPDATE:

Merz & Lefevers were each charged criminally with Class Class F Felony Burglary - Building or Dwelling and Class I Felony Criminal Damage to Property (over $2,500).

Merz appeared most recently in August 2024 and is scheduled to have a jury trial on his charges in December 2024.

Online circuit court records show that at a recent court hearing, Lefevers appeared and was sentenced on a conviction for Class F Felony Burglary - Building or Dwelling. The remaining charges filed against him in Barron County Circuit Court were dismissed but read in.

The Hon. Judge Samuel Lawton ordered Lefevers to serve a 7-year prison sentence with 4 years of initial confinement in state prison followed by 3 years of extended supervision.

Conditions of supervision will require Lefevers to maintain absolute sobriety; complete all evaluations, counseling, treatment, and follow-up ordered by the Department of Corrections; and pay towards the total restitution amount which is nearly $700,000.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
